Assessment

At Long Bay Primary we believe assessment information must be meaningful and used to help improve educational outcomes for our students. Our School’s curriculum is based on the New Zealand Curriculum, but localised to meet the needs of the school’s vision and values.

Assessment at Long Bay Primary

A student’s assessment information is not a secret – we believe it is vital that students, parents and teachers have a clear understanding of learning needs and strengths and the capacity to set relevant learning goals for the future together, based on high quality assessment information. It is important that the data we collect is meaningful and shows not only where the student is at now, but also where he/she has come from and where to next. At Long Bay Primary we are committed to adding value to each student’s learning through high quality teaching and learning programmes – demonstrating this through thoughtful and meaningful data collection and analysis.

Formative Assessment

Formative assessment is actively practised in classrooms at Long Bay Primary School. Students are encouraged to discuss their learning with others.

We place an emphasis on students receiving high quality feedback and feed forward information that helps them to better understand their own learning needs and strengths and to set goals for continuous improvement. This information is sometimes written, but it is also often verbal – encouraging students to engage in active and meaningful ‘learning conversations’ with their peers and their teachers.

Reporting Student Progress

Teacher / Student / Parent conferences take place early in Term 1, after the students have settled into school. Students are encouraged to attend the conference alongside their parents/whānau.

Each student will receive an annual mid year and end of year progress report.

Learning conferences for parents/whanau to attend with their child take place at the end of Term 2, after the mid year progress report. We also hold student led conferences during Term 3 where students have the opportunity to share their learning with their families.

The end of year report is a summative report on his/her progress to date against curriculum level expectations. The report is also used formatively as a basis for future goal setting.

Our open door policy encourages parents to see their child’s teacher regularly. Please make an appointment time to discuss any concerns. The best way to do this is via Hero.

Online booking school interviews

Hero is used booking interview meeting times. Parents are advised of the dates of these interviews through the school newsletter, and provided with the information they need to make a booking.
