Enrolments

Are you interested in sending your child to Long Bay School? Find out if you are in our the zone. As with most primary schools in New Zealand, the eligibility of prospective pupils is largely determined by where they live.

Enrolling Your Child

Choosing a school for you and your child is an important decision. At Long Bay Primary enrolments are restricted by our enrolment zone. If you are living in zone you are welcome to complete an online enrolment application form. Once this has been submitted, our Enrolments Officer will be in contact with you to arrange a school visit and a tour of the school with one of our senior leadership team. At Long Bay Primary we are committed to providing high quality education in an environment where individual differences are valued and students are inspired to reach their greatest potential. We look forward to meeting you and warmly welcoming you to our school community.

In Zone Enrolment Information

You can check if you live in our zone by visiting this website and entering your home address. In zone parents are invited to contact the school office to arrange an appointment to meet with a member of the school leadership team to discuss enrolment of their child /children. Parents are required to provide the child’s birth certificate and immunisation certificate (for all 5 year old new entrants) to confirm status for enrolment in a state school. We also ask for proof of address in the form of a recent gas or electricity bill.

Do you have a child turning 5 at the end of this year or in 2026?

If your child will be attending Long Bay Primary in 2026 we would like to know. This helps to plan ahead for future growth, employ teachers and form classes.

Cohort Entry

At Long Bay Primary School our new entrant students start school using cohort entry. Cohort entry is when a school has two entry points per term for children to start school after they have turned five – on the first day of the term and at a mid-point during the term.

The entry dates for 2025 are:

TERM START OF TERM DATE MID-TERM DATE END OF TERM DATE

1 3/02/2025 10/03/2025 11/04/2025

2 28/04/2025 26/05/2025 27/06/2025

3 14/07/2025 18/08/2025 19/09/2025

4 6/10/2025 10/11/2025 17/12/2025

The above dates are set by the Ministry of Education and are not flexible.

Cohort entry is about helping children to settle better at school. There is evidence that starting school alongside other children helps them build relationships and supports a smoother entry into school life.

Cohort entry can also mean less disruption for new entrant teachers who can prepare for groups of children arriving on a specific date rather than on an individual and ad hoc basis throughout the year.

Pre-school visits and a parent information meeting are held in conjunction with the cohort entry dates.
